Marmartar's portrait drawing stuff.

Okay I drew a cover for Vocaloid earlier. And now I have nothing to read and am intensely bored at the moment. Been thinking of doing one more cover art, but I'd have to read your story and have to visualize it. That's why I'm hesitant to bother, because if I don't want to draw something that I don't think would accurately represent a story when I haven't even read it.

But one thing I know I can do on request is drawing portraits, which is simple and easy to an extent for me. You should describe your character concisely to me. Preferably, in bullet points so it's easier on me.

It would be better if you have a drawing that you want me to just look at and make a portrait from. I guess this should be your character from your story? Well make sure to link the story too that your character comes from.

I'd like it to be human as that's what I'm used to, but if it's a humanoid with like beast or reptilian features I could try.

Examples of probably what it'll be like :

http://sta.sh/01yt3j19sldf

Some better examples of portraits I've done in varying qualities:

http://sta.sh/0xz1hg07xbd

http://sta.sh/01yser68qwcv

Well hopefully some people hit me up with it like soon, as I'm in the mood right now. I might only do a few though if there is a lot :/ but first come first serve.

Ooh, those are pretty nice. Maybe you could make a little doodle or two for me? I'm just writing it for the heck of it, but perhaps you'll take a look at Noodle Knight?

Anyways, just pick and choose from the characters list. I've got some really simple doodles here (seriously simple...) and better(?) character descriptions here. If you can't think of any features, just think of generic or stereotypical for the time being.

Here's some of the main stuff.

Noodle Knight Bob:
-physically fit
-tall-ish
-childlike simplicity/innocent?
-ever present cheer
-brown eyes, sandy hair, sharp nose

Bill:
-Bob's counter part, similarly buff. Think of him as the straight man to Bob's foolishness.
-serious face is always serious
-brooding eyes most times
-sharply defined features such as sharper chin, knit eyebrows, and piercing blue eyes

Magical Sam:
-Think Gandalf, but much, much dumber.
-jovial old guy who would make a good crazy grandpa if it weren't for his tendency to throw Logic out the window or blow things up.
-wears classic mage's robes, complete with pointy, old hat.
-may carry a crystal topped staff at times.

"Logic": (tentative info)
-young guy, kinda like an apprentice/intern for the magical place known as the Hole/Hall of Glory.
-13 years old?
-bright and eager to please

Nathan: (hero)
-shota styled highschooler
-short, handsome, blond-wavy hair
-could easily be called cute by either gender.
-if dressed in a dress or skirt, could be mistaken for a girl

Riley: (hero)
-androgynous looking girl.
-cool and reserved, could be considered a cool princess or a striking prince
-brown hair is kept in a ponytail

Serina: (hero)
-love struck girl, fawns over Nathan
-blunt and to the point
-haughty princess type
-black hair is styled in drill-style pigtails.

okay I'll be picking whichever. Uh though I tried to read a bit of your fiction, but realised I wasn't in the mood to read anything new. So if the portraits don't come out looking or feeling like your characters uuh you don't have to think they are necessarily looking like that.

Anyways I might do a few if no one else comes and asks me for drawings.

Here I tried to draw Bill. You didn't really mention hair color so did whatever hair color. Tried to keep the other characteristics you mentioned. And just gave him a plain reddish shirt as no real clothes were mentioned. I guess it came out ok. Probably will draw more of your characters as not much happening XD.

also the stash link http://sta.sh/0mgw8h667ij

May work on another tonight but I'll see.

Edited: its really bill I drew ...

I'm using a tablet an intuos wacom. And the drawing program I'm using is sai. I'm already drawing another character here let's see if I can get this done too >>; . Yeah and Bob I feel like I could've done him differently, but I had already drawn him out. Sorry it might not be very accurate, but that's the problem when I don't read the story >>; .

Also I'm drawing serina, let's see how that works out : D!

Cool, I got a drawing tablet recently and wanted to try my hand at drawing on my computer. It's a Huion drawing tablet and I've tested it out on Krita. Got any drawing tips and tricks or even just the basics?

I've never used Huion, but that looks like a pretty good sized tablet. I've never used Krita either so not sure how that program exactly works. It looks interesting though.

Huh I'm pretty bad at giving tips and not sure what basics you mean. I guess get the hang of the program and test out things you wanna draw. Every drawing program has it's quirk, the faster you get used to one and utilize it , the easier it'll be to draw something. I guess make sure the sensitivity on your tablet is working with the program.

Also I don't know about everyone else, but when I first used a tablet it was kind of hard to transition from traditional to digital. You gotta get used to drawing with your tablet. Just know if your first pictures don't come out well as a traditional drawing. It's probably because your getting used to it.  And well I guess know what you want to draw and know you can correct your mistakes infinitely. Idk if you want to draw humans or other things. Tutorials usually help. It took me a long while to get to digital drawing, but tutorials nowadays do help. Like videos I guess.

I've used a variety of drawing programs like open canvas, gimp, and sai. Each one had there own learning curve and sometimes had very different results with pictures >>;. I say know which program you wanna draw with and stick with it. I mostly draw with sai as I got used to it.

UUh well if you have more specific questions I don't mind chatting. :/ I am still bored here.

I just read your story and got confused about why bob was the main character... when he acts so silly. Realised I got bill mixed up as bob as I drew bill but for some reason thought its bob. Lol worst mix ups while im tired. Sorry if that confused you or you already caught my mix up...

XD As I said, I'm writing it for fun so things may not exactly be cohesive, but hey, it passes the time. Half the things I've written came to me during the time immediately prior to writing the actual chapter.

No I think it's readable. Just a dumb mixup on my end. How I actually imagined bob more or less was with the description you gave.

Your novel remjnds me of things like fighting foodons, toriko, and one manga I remember glimpsing that had a kid making al dente noodles lol.

Also Luciferia I'll totally look at it later. I'm slightly interested in drawing one of the characters I've seen of yours, but after I finish the one I'm working on. Also sorry should've responded earlier, but rrl quoting system on mobile is confusing. ( Or I just haven't gotten it )

@J0nn0 Okay done with Serina. ( pretty sure this is serina ). I guess I gave her princess like clothing as she is a haughty princess type >>; . I did this one more quickly though and the drill hair more or less I might've been overdone.

Nope, that's perfectly fine! I'm trying to make my characters more exaggerated and blown out of proportion on purpose. Having a visual representation of that just helps to further solidify my will to continue writing their stories.

Thanks again for the art! :D

lol that's good. I like characters that are a bit exaggerated. Just some times what's in my head and what's on paper can be totally different. And no problem just doing these more for fun and to pass time. I might do more of your characters later ahaha. You conveniently put down so many I was shocked, but bullet points indeed make it easy. But I guess the one I can visualize the most easily would be bob ( the real mc ). I might do him for real later >>;

Also for Lucifera here is uuuh Nalithor Vraelimir. I hope I drew him well enough lol. I think I got too engrossed in the hair. These are meant to be quick >>; Well I say the hair was the most worked on ahaha.

Nice work, but it looks off somehow. Comparing it to a quick google image search for "portraits", I think that the eyes are too wide, the bridge of the nose looks too wide/defined, and the face narrows down sharply at where his jawline should be. Also, the horns appear to rest on his hair instead of having the hair steam around the protrusions. It's still a lot better than what I can do, though. Keep up the good work.

How'd you do the texturing and highlights on the hair? It's still a long ways off for me, but I'd like to know your process for future reference.

Yeah it looks off cause after I finished with the hair I just went... yeah don't wanna work on it anymore xDD. I could've worked way more on the skin, but figured that was enough. ( Brain just went numb and said that was it ).  The other drawings  I spent more time on the skin >>; . But this one felt more all hair and less everything else xD.  Oh and the horns were supposed to be hidden by hair. But I brought them to the front with layers... but by then I got lazy to hide hair at the ends of the horn >>;. Besides the horns are bad in general.

Uuuuuh you just draw the hair? LOL. I'm not the type to make tutorials and I'm sure my drawing process is very inefficient. I'd say my drawing style for hair like this is draw each line of hair individually. I  used to do that a lot until I realized that's too time consuming. Using a brush like hair like lines makes that process a hundred times easier. But I only figured that out not so long ago lol.

Anyways maybe if I draw something next time I can show you the rough than final idk. I still think you'd be better off looking at tutorials on hair and probably just drawing actual peoples hair in real life.
