So, I don't care if the lead is male or female( if female though please let her be smart )
but I just need them to not be crazy or squeamish about killing so no harem please, some romance is fine, but no harem.:)

For example lament of the fallen. 
That's great, and anything where the mc is kinda OP but not tooo OP.

I'll shamelessly suggest you to read my novel. I'm rewriting it and reposting it bit by bit at the moment, but I basically have something like 15 chapters in stock, so it should be fast because I already have almost everything ready.

It's about a smart savvy mage guy who seeks glory and meets a smart savvy female warrior. Characters go from a wide range of deadpan snarkers (female mc and some others) to rude and twisted common sense (male mc). They're quite strong but not OP, I tend to make them use wits and plots rather than brute force, most of the time.
