RE: Need more from viewers

#2
I once held the same sentiments; it's important, however, to understand that us authors are not entitled to comments or reviews. This is an entertainment site that allows people to get their fix and leave. It's fundamentally different than the big publishers or sites with fussy pre-approval processes held in shadowy rooms staffed by cloaked literature brokers that shift surviving pieces towards a small dedicated audience (if such places exist).

There's a few things you can do to garner some comments though:

1) Ask nicely in your author's notes:

But don't be annoying about it. Little nudges here and there, and if you do get a bite: interact with your commenters as best you can. It's bad form to solicit an opinion only to ignore those who answer the call. (Doesn't entirely apply to one liners, it's hard to interact with many of them in a constructive manner beyond "thank you for your thank you" even if you do appreciate it.

2) Post on the forums:

Like you're doing here, but not with the tone you're using. I understand your frustration, but it comes off as rather pretentious when you say you NEED something from a reader more than just reading.

3) Quid pro quo:

Respond to, or post a mutual review/comment thread. These are places where you can find people who are actually willing to give you that little extra, or are at least willing to give it to you after some effort on your part. Even if the interaction turns out to not be as enthusiastic as a die hard fan of your work, it may start a dialogue for others to build off of.
