Play test my game (third time's the charm)

#1
Last year, I've worked on a small game inspired by my main character in Rabbit Knight's combat style. It's called An Expected Sacrifice.

While I've stopped working on it for almost a year now, I still love it's interesting mechanics and combat so I want to share it with you guys. You can play it in your browser.

Here's the link:

In essence i like the Gameplay, but it isn't perfect.

Review:

General:
1. This Grainy Style is interisting. but should not effect your life bars, except whenthey are nearly depleted. Maybe the general effect can be made more prominent, with lower health.

2. I think these Lifebars are a bit to small.

3. No Information when i can leap again or when you can slash again.

4. The Ammuniton and Reload bar is at a place where i rarrly look at. I know where the Cursor is, but it is much more important that your character is out of harm. If the Targeter would be much more Stationary it would properbly work, but not in this game.

5. The Key-Layout for Dodge and Weapon changing is detremintal. I have to move Finger away from A that I us for the WASD Movement, so that i can press either Q or TAB. Using the shift Key for Dodge would be much more apropetly. Being able to meele with the left mouse button and ranged with the right one would also be much more comfortable, but this is propeply not possible with a browser.

Modes: The Ability to Instanly exit them (pressing Esc)

Tutorial:
Great except for the explainaition for the Lifebars, only after I played a Game i relly understood what they were. Blue being stamina and white health. You say this indirectly, calling it energy and power makes it hard to undersand for a newbie.
The Fly Enemy and the Turret are also not distant enough. When fighting the flying one you can come in range of the turret.

Runner Mode: Nothing realy to say.

Line Defense:
The build Menu is buggy. If you go to far to the right the menu gets overlaped by the boundaries.
Also annying is that when your spawn a bear, he is probebly to slow to get over the line, before he gets attacked, which causes the line to be pushed back.

Base Defense: Thankfully here the build menu works all the time. I like that you addad a map, but could you make it (in the settings) toggleble or have it always present in a corner?

Because that happens the millisecond I move my hand away from the movement keys. That just shows the engagement level required to play this game >.<

Thank you so much for your input!  I've never thought of most of these suggestions. I will implement them when I decide to actively develop the game again (which is soon, I hope).

I would prefer if weapon swapping was keyed to Q and dodging to E. A lot of games use q and e as a shortcut to swap to another weapon one way or the other and they're comfortably close to to the movement keys.

Maybe map them to ctrl and right shift too for people using the other movement set with the arrows.

Melee Weapons:

Sword- the most garbage melee weapon with literally no benefit to using. If you look at its stats compared to the spear, it's inferior in every way. It's weaker, slower, and stuns less. To make this weapon viable, I suggest making it the fastest weapon.

Spear- This should be the default weapon right now as it's pretty much the best melee weapon until you balance other things.

Dagger- Useless with a slightly okay side feature. Its whole thing is that it's weak and very fast, but has a chance to instakill. To be honest, I'd prefer if it had a very high stun.

Gun Weapons:

I honestly didn't feel much of a difference between weapons. However, I felt like they were weak, had very low ammo before reloads, and weren't worth using most of the time. I found myself reloading more than firing and didn't get the damage output I wanted. Combine that with the awkwardness of swapping from melee and I became a melee only character in this game.

Game dimensions:

The entire game is way too long in both fullscreen and normal. It stretches so far that you have to be scrolled up slightly to see the bars while the bottom maybe 1/8 of the screen is completely cut off. In fullscreen mode it's even worse as one of the bars is cut off.

Games with allies:

Where are the points? I don't know how much money I have to buy allies. I just spam the higher tiers and go down hoping I can buy something.

No matter what ally I buy, I feel like they die way too fast. I find myself running around killing all the enemies myself except for the first few levels where the turrets took care of everything. Also, not too fond of the friendly fire mechanic and getting killed by the turrets myself. I need to play this game mode more since the few times I did play I spammed wolves instead of saving up.

Will continue this review after playing more.
