A question for Writers/Readers alike.

I'm curious how you all feel about a protagonist that is familiar with various fictional tropes and settings. In particular, ones that directly relates to their current situation and thus using that knowledge as a reference to avoid falling into the same pitfalls associated with said tropes.

As an example, the protagonist is reincarnated from modern-day earth to a cliche fantasy setting, and wants to go 'against the trend' as it were. Would this be perceived as annoying or be seen as breaking any walls?

Do you have any specific scenario in mind?

As far I can see, many if not all of the isekai stories out there have an MC who has a general idea about LitRPG or isekai tropes and cliches.

"OMG! Am I in a fantasy world like those web novels I like to read?!"

Some even get trap in games that not only are they familiar but actually an expert of. so nothing new about that. Is it bad or good? I don't really know. It depends on how the writer manages it I guess.
