Sex and/or gore.

#1
I'm having something of a conundrum.
A part of the future developments when it comes to character interactions in my story involves sex.
My problem right now, is how much detail I should go into. I've got no issues with graphical sex in stories myself, but as of yet I haven't added the sex tag (There has been no sex to use as bait for the readers yet).
I did a poll, and it seems that most of my readers are okay with it, so adding it shouldn't offend them probably.
but I'm still unsure about how to go about presenting it.
Should I just use spoiler tags so that those who don't want to read it can skip it, or should I outsource it to a secondary story and just link it as if it is a separate story in the form of porn?

I have somewhat the same issue with gore. It doesn't really help tell the story if I go into details, but I understand that a fair amount of RRL readers enjoy gory details. So the question is.  should I go entrails or no entrails?

Cheers!

Friend Antice, you should write what feels right to you. It is your story.
In the interest of avoiding offense, there is nothing wrong with tagging or a pre-story spoiler/warning.
I'm not sure if it can be done on RRL, but on Spacebattles and Sufficient Velocity some writers have prefaced chapters with a warning and then used spoiler windows to hide the potentially objectionable material. Want to read gore/sex? Click on the window to open the material. If you don't want to read it, leave the window closed.
Again, not sure if that is even possible on RRL. You may just want to put a bold warning label before and after the content.
I would not recommend using links. That seems like it would be an off-putting kludge to me.

Yeah. links are off putting, and it would take 2 days to get a secondary story approved for posting such chapters. I post irregularly but often, so a 2 day extra wait before it was up would be rather annoying both for me and my readers.
Spoiler tags are possible, So that is my preferred option right now.
Gore and sex isn't a primary driving force in the story, but glossing over such major experiences would feel weird when we follow the MC as closely as I do.

I think the amount of details should correlate with the importance in the story. I use quite graphical gore because it's the thing that shocks the MC and provokes further development. My story will contain sex but right now I plan to more or less fade-out after the start because the experience itself won't add something new to the character.

It's also way harder to write sex scenes for everyone. A missing arm is a missing arm. But if you talk to 10 people how they experience sex, you'll probably get 12 answers. So what might be a good sex scene to you, can be a cringe-fest to others. So it's kinda between "standard sex" which is often boring to read and "special experience" which might turn out bad.

In the end you should look at the story you want to tell and ask yourself whether the scene adds something to the story or the characters. Sex can include quirks linked to the MC's past, gore (or the reaction to gore) can fuel something different. If your scene adds something to the story, write it the way you want. If it doesn't add something to the story and is just pure "fanservice/filler", you should ask yourself whether your writing quality can pull it off...

If you do include an explicit sex scene in a chapter you should include a note in the pre-chapter notes to let readers know. You'll also have to add the sexual content tag to your story. Beyond that what you decide to do is up to you. If you believe the scene to be important to the story include it. If you don't think a detailed description of gore is needed, the don't include it. I think you'll get more clarity about it when you start writing the scenes in question.

I love to read such stories, especially when they are based on real events. It's even better when illustrations are attached to the story. Also, I would diversify the classic sex of the characters and add sex toys to their introduction. I think a lot of readers will love this. I constantly buy sex toys at lovermart.com, and I know what each of them looks like. Perhaps I will soon be able to work in a sex shop myself, because I know everything by heart. Please listen to the opinion of the reader. I am for diversity in stories. Good luck to you) !

Here is how I dealt with the matter.

1. I put both sexual content and traumatizing content on my fiction beforehand to cover any spicy or mildly gory scenes.
2. If I have any more explicit content, either on the sexy or traumatizing/triggering side, I leave a small warning in the author's notes before the chapter.
3. Here is how I have dealt with my only explicit sex scene thus far, both in labeling and actual content: II-7. Snakes in the Lion's den (1)

I hope this would be helpful.

At the end of all of this, it's your story you write what you want to write. I personally am not too comfortable writing sex scenes, I'm not shy about the topic, it just feels wrong to me (still debating if I should add scene like that in my story). But reading it, that's an entirely different bag of potatoes. If I want two (or more) characters to bang out there frustrations, I would love to see it. I say fucking go for it!
