Forgive me. I am not too sure about novels but I do recall a Korean Manga about something like that.
It is called The Gamer, and from what I remember it is about a high school student that suddenly had his life turned into a video game, with everyone getting level numbers floating above their heads and every thing. Only strange thing is that no one else can see this, only him.
