Why do some posts under Latest Updates show more chapters than others?

Does this happen only when an author published a ton of chapters concurrently? Is it a method used to take up more space on the home page?
Couldn't find anything about this from a quick search, but would be happy if someone could point be in the right direction. I'm sure there has to be more information on it somewhere.

If you mean on the main/home page, it will display all releases of that fiction in the past few hours (maybe even the entire day).
Both yes and no. No actual space is taken, the latest updates should show the same number of unique fictions (10), regardless of how many updates each one has. On the other hand, it might prompt more visibility by showing increased activity.

It just means some one keeps uploading a new chapter every few hours to stay in the latest updates.

That was my guess on why as well, as I'd uploaded a few chapters over the course of a couple hours and noticed it bounce around in that section. I appreciate the confirmation, and thanks for bringing it up BigMartyrs!
